Lunch Rotary Donates $2500.00 to SEE International

Rotary supports local eye doctor on his humanitarian mission to restore eyesight to 100's of disadvantaged individuals in Africa and Haiti

The International Service Committee of the Moorestown Lunch Rotary is excited to support the humanitarian efforts of longtime Moorestown resident and eye surgeon Dr. Reed Kindermann. Dr. Kindermann presented to the club membership last week and the club dsurprised him with a $2500 donation to help support the SEE International mission. Dr. Kindermann, through his affiliation with SEE International (Surgical Eye Expeditions), recently returned from Haiti where he and his team of volunteers performed over 450 cataract surgeries to restore sight to this under served population. Dr. Kindermann and his wife Greta have traveled to over 14 countries and have given the gift of sight to thousands of individuals. What is a simple procedure in the States is much ore complicated in poor areas around the world. Many people are blinded by a routine cataract. It is truly an amazing gift to restore sight to someone who may have never seen their grand children because of cataracts. What makes this even more special is that our highly advanced equipment is not available and these surgeries all need to be done the old fashioned way, by hand. This is a lost art that Dr. Kindermann can still practice. Also, as part of his volunteer efforts, he is teaching eye surgeons here in Philadelphia at Wills Eye Hospital, how to perform these surgeries without the benefit of robotics.
