Stolen Parrot Returned, Man Charged In Burlington County Shoplifting Case: PD

A Salem County man faces a shoplifting charge in the theft of a baby parrot, which police say was returned to the pet store unharmed.

DELRAN, NJ — Police charged a Salem County man with shoplifting after they say he took a baby parrot from a Burlington County pet store.

Delran Police were investigating the theft of a a pineapple green cheek conure from Todd Marcus Birds Exotic, and said two men were involved.

Officials arrested 39-year-old Manuel Roble at his Penns Grove home on Thursday, Jan. 12 according to Delran police and charged him with third-degree shoplifting.

He was released on a summons, the department said. Police had originally sought a second suspect, as well, but did not indicate anything further about the investigation when they announced Roble's arrest Thursday.

The young parrot was returned to Birds Exotic unharmed, the store said in a Facebook post Thursday.

"Our little conure is doing well after this traumatic experience," Birds Exotic wrote. "We are giving him extra supportive care and he will also be fully examined by our avian vet."

Birds Exotic thanked the police department, local news media, and everyone who shared their original post about the bird being taken. "We are so relieved and thankful," store staff wrote.
