Lockheed Martin Wins Contract to Upgrade Navy Defenses

Most of the work will be conducted at the Borton Landing Road facility in Moorestown.

Defense contractor Lockheed Martin has been awarded a contract that could be worth as much as $428 million to update a combat system it developed about 40 years ago and is used on board Navy ships, the Burlington County Times reports.

The company will install the Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense system on new Arleigh Burke-class destroyers and modernize the combat systems on the country’s other Navy ships, according to the report. The system is used by the United States and multiple other countries.

The update would allow Navy ships to defend against airborne threats and target and intercept ballistic missiles at the same time, according to the report.
