Moorestown Closings And Cancellations Amid Coronavirus Concerns

MOORESTOWN, NJ — Following Gov. Phil Murphy's recommendation that gatherings of more than 250 people should be canceled in New Jersey because of the coronavirus scare, Moorestown has announced a series of closings and cancellations.

“While there are no known cases of the virus in Moorestown, we remain vigilant and endeavor to be proactive,” Township Manager Tom Merchel said Friday afternoon. “The following actions have been taken to do our part to try to minimize unnecessary public contact and interaction.”

The township has taken the following actions:

Department of Parks and Recreation: All programs, athletic facilities, recreation centers and fields are closed until further notice.

Moorestown Library: While the library remains open to the public, all programs have been cancelled through April 9. The library staff has initiated enhanced cleaning of public surfaces to reduce risk.

Municipal Court: The March 18 and 25 municipal court sessions to be held at Cinnaminson Township have been postponed. Customers will be notified by mail of their newly scheduled court date.

Advisory Boards: Township officials have encouraged advisory committee meetings to be cancelled through April 20. Residents should check the township’s website to follow meeting status.

Township Council/Planning Board and Zoning Board Meetings: These meetings will continue as scheduled. These boards have regulatory authority and will continue to conduct business as usual. Attendance at these events is much lower than the 250 person limit instituted by the governor.

The New Jersey Department of Health has partnered with the New Jersey Poison Information and Education System to open and operate a call center (1-800-222-1222) for public use regarding questions, concerns, and other information related to coronavirus spread in New Jersey.
