Moorestown Councilwoman Pens Letter To The Editor On Water Issues

Councilwoman Stacey Jordan writes about misinformation going around concerning the township's water supply.

An Open Letter to the Residents of Moorestown:

There has been a lot of misinformation surrounding our water here in Moorestown, so I wanted to take this opportunity to set the record straight.

Our water is safe and has always been safe, meeting every single state and federal standard set for drinking water.

I have lived in town for almost 24 years (I know, I'm still a newbie) and have 4 incredible children that have drank the water and continue to drink the water.

I would never put my neighbors and friends and their children, let alone my own family, in harm's way. If I had even the smallest doubt that our water wasn't safe, I would be the first to be shouting from the rooftops.

This situation, which started as a concern from a couple of residents, has now turned into a politically-driven issue spearheaded by candidates for Town Council and members of their political party here in town.

While our water is safe (we had one - and only one - violation that was the result of a dirty tap from the property where the water was collected) we want to have the best water possible.

Council took the initiative to make sure that happens, working closely with water professionals, toxicologists, and environmental experts.

The solutions we are implementing will remove the trace levels of unregulated contaminants from our water, giving us water that will be better than every standard demands.

Unfortunately, the local Democrats tried to stop us from moving forward with solutions to make our water the best, and the lone Democrat on our Council even decided to vote against these plans - without giving any alternative solutions - which tells you all you need to know. Sadly, for them, it's all about politics.

Our health and safety should NEVER be politicized. Challenge me if you don't like what we're doing in town with things like the new parking lot, improving our water plants and infrastructure, working towards betterment of Township assets like Strawbridge Lake, or our new Town Hall and Library that came in under budget (all of this, by the way, done with a tax cut!) - but please don't scare people for political gain.

When you vote this year, I urge all of my neighbors to see through the politics - do not reward the local Democrats' scare tactics with your votes. This town has honored me by trusting me to two terms on Town Council - and I believe you know I have always and will always continue to have Moorestown and all my neighbors best interests at heart. Thank you for allowing me to serve, for your trust, and for your confidence.
