Moorestown Extends Grace Period For Property Taxes

Council approved the extension of the grace period during a special meeting Friday afternoon.

MOORESTOWN, NJ — Moorestown Council has extended the grace period for property taxes that were due on May 1. Council approved the measure with a unanimous vote of 5-0.

Council took the action during a special meeting that took place Friday afternoon by teleconference while the municipal building remains closed to the public due to the outbreak of new coronavirus.

Last week, Gov. Phil Murphy announced that municipalities would be permitted to extend the grace period for property tax payments due on May 1 to June 1. Taxes are still due May 1, but the grace period in which residents can pay their taxes without accruing interest or fees is extended from May 11 to June 1.

Townships aren't required to extend the grace period, but the governor's order allowed them to make that decision.
