Moorestown High School Baseball Team Manages Upset, Ultimately Falls in Playoffs

The 14th-seeded Quakers upset the No. 3 seed in the first round earlier this week.

Moorestown, NJ -- The Moorestown High School baseball made it farther than expected, but saw its dreams of winning an NJSIAA Central Jersey Group 3 title come to an end on Thursday.

The 14th-seeded Quakers fell to No. 6 Nottingham, 6-0, in the quarterfinals on Thursday, according to nj.com.

However, most people wouldn’t expect a No. 14 seed to be in the quarterfinals in the first place.

Moorestown managed that accomplishment with a 6-5 upset win over No. 3 Hopewell Valley earlier in the week.

Winning pitcher Brian McMonagle tossed a complete game, striking out four, walking two and allowing eight hits, according to nj.com.

The highest seeded team left in the playoff is No. 4 Ocean Township, which hosts No. 8 Brick in the semifinals. Nottingham hosts No. 7 Wall in the semifinals.
