Moorestown High School Football Team Learns Group Classification for 2016

Will the Quakers compete in Central Jersey again this year?

Moorestown, NJ -- For the second consecutive year, the Moorestown High School football team will compete against teams from Central Jersey for a championship.

The NJSIAA released its group classifications for the 2016 season last week, and Moorestown will remain in Central Jersey Group 4, according to nj.com.

It moved to Central Jersey from South Jersey last season.

Groups are set up based on school size and location.

Teams in Burlington County often find themselves moving between South and Central, depending on the number of teams in each classification in that given year. The NJSIAA tries to have the same number of teams in each region.

In football, the largest schools are in Group 5, the next largest are in Group 4, etc., down to the smallest classification at Group 1.

Teams qualify for the playoffs based on power points, which are awarded based on strength of schedule. Wins over teams in larger groups are worth more power points than wins over teams in smaller groups.

Moorestown will compete in the West Jersey Football League’s Royal Division, along with Bishop Eustace (Group 3), Cumberland Regional (Group 4), Highland (Group 4), Triton (Group 3) and Woodrow Wilson (Group 4).

Moorestown was 3-7 last season. Jackson Memorial is the defending Central Jersey Group 4 champion, and returns to the group to defend its title this year.
