Moorestown Native Will Compete for Olympic Gold In Women's Eight Rowing
Lauren Schmetterling and her teammates on the Team USA Women's Eight Rowing team won their heat in Rio de Janeiro on Tuesday.

Moorestown’s Lauren Schmetterling and her teammates on the Team USA Women's Eight Rowing team will compete for gold medals Saturday morning after their victory on Monday in Rio de Janeiro.
Team USA won Heat 1 with a time of 6:06.34. The Netherlands was second in the heat, at 6:14.36.
Team USA had the best overall time in the two heats, as Great Britain won the second heat in 6:09. 52.

The finals are set for Saturday, 10:04 a.m.
Schmetterling joined coxswain Katelin Snyder, 2008 and 2012 Olympian Eleanor Logan, Amanda Elmore, Tessa Gobbo, 2012 Olympian Meghan Musnicki, Emily Regan, Amanda Polk and Kerry Simmonds in the win.

The team has been nearly unstoppable since winning gold in 2012. Schmetterling, 28, has been part of a championship-winning boat in each of the last three World Rowing Championships.
