Moorestown Patch Letter to the Editor: Council Candidate Defends Town on Transparency Issues

Mike Locatell responds to Kati Angelini's questioning of the township's transparency issues.

To the Editor:

I felt it necessary to respond to the recent letter published by you. The author claims that somehow Moorestown has not been transparent regarding our community’s water.

She makes this claim despite the many public meetings and a web page dedicated to the subject of our utility by the township.

She also talks about the resignation of our water department director, my concern is not whether the township manager informed the public but rather the reason for his resignation in the first place.

I can only image after the weeks and months of Mr. Butler having his professionalism, character and Integrity attacked and called into question by the author and others, he decided to seek a better work environment.

Also, as she and her running mates continue to attack our staff and our professionals, finding a quality replacements will become a more difficult task.

I honestly don’t know if her motivations are based on a simple lack of understanding of the issue or if it’s purely a political game to get her and the Democrat candidates elected.

What I do know is this issue should not be a political football.

Our water is safe and has been safe throughout this entire process. Moorestown’s water meets all state and federal drinking water standards.

Her gross misrepresentations are harmful and irresponsible and have a negative impact on all of our property values and hurts the local businesses that serve our community.

Council has moved to invest millions of dollars to replace old infrastructure, working towards both interim and permanent solutions to remove all contaminants delivering the cleanest possible water.

This plan will be a more cost effective and healthier alternative than buying our water from private corporation pumping Delaware river water at twice the cost, which is what her and her running mates keep advocating.

Moorestown residents deserve to know the real facts about our water and the plans both parties have for Moorestown’s future. I look forward to sharing those facts and debating those plans in person later this fall.
