Moorestown Police Officers Paying for Parking while on Duty

Officers paying to park a township police vehicle

It recently came to my attention that the police officers in Moorestown are now required to pay for parking when they stop in town for lunch or a coffee break. This seems completely ridiculous; as a resident of the town I find it hard to believe that an officer driving a marked vehicle and protecting the township can't stop for lunch without having to feed a parking meter. Police vehicles tend to have heavy duty weapons in them and the officers always have a view of their vehicle.

In addition, it seems to me that a marked police vehicle parked on Main Street would help deter crime rather than invite it. We live in one of the most expensive towns in NJ, yet we want our police officers to pay to park. I imagine that the officers are fighting this requirement and I doubt they take up a parking space for more than 20 to 30 minutes at the most.

Whoever decided that this is a good idea should rethink this policy or get out of office.
