Moorestown School Board To Consider Reopening Proposal Tuesday
The Moorestown Board of Education will meet virtually at 7 p.m. Tuesday night.
MOORESTOWN, NJ — The Moorestown Public School District Board of Education will consider three items related to the reopening of schools amid the coronavirus pandemic Tuesday night.
The Board of Education will consider the district’s restart and recover plan; remote learning options for families; and the Federal Families First Coronavirus Response Act when it meets at 7 p.m. All three items are up for first readings.
Superintendent of Schools Scott McCartney is also scheduled to deliver a general update on the district’s plans amid the pandemic during his superintendent’s report.

The plans, as presented to the board on July 28, include both hybrid and remote-learning options. Under the hybrid portion of the plan, students in all grades will be split into two groups, with one group attending class in-person on Monday and Wednesday, and the other attending in-person on Tuesday and Thursday.

On days in which they are not in school, children will engage in remote learning. All students will engage in remote learning on Fridays, which will be abbreviated days so the classrooms can undergo a deep cleaning and the staff can engage in professional development. There will also be a 100 percent remote learning plan after Gov. Phil Murphy said the Department of Education would provide guidance for parents to allow for them to opt for all-remote learning for their children this fall. Last week, the State Department of Health issued guidelines that said districts can opt to start with fully remote learning if they can show the state they are unable to meet the minimum standards outlined in "The Road Back," along with a plan and a date the district intends to resume some form of in-person schooling. There has been no indication that the school district is considering this option.
The meeting will begin at 6 p.m., but will immediately go into closed session. It will open to the public at 7 p.m. The public can participate remotely using this link: August 18, 2020 BOE Meeting Zoom Link. The passcode is z4VT5A. These options are also available:
