Police Identify Shooter, Victim in Apparent Murder-Suicide in Moorestown

A Philadelphia man killed himself after allegedly shooting a co-worker due to a domestic situation at a security company in Moorestown.

Moorestown Police have identified the shooter and the victim in an apparent murder-suicide that took place at Shields Business Solutions in Moorestown Monday morning.

Edgar Figueroa, 42, of the 1600 block of Howell Street in Philadelphia, allegedly shot Melvin Nieves, 31, of the 7000 block of Bustleton Avenue in Philadelphia, inside the building where the two were employed around 7 a.m.

Figueroa allegedly shot Nieves four times before Nieves fled outside, where he was assisted by other co-workers.

He was transported by NJSP helicopter to Cooper Hospital in Camden, NJ after initial treatment by Lenola EMS and Virtua Paramedics. He was listed in critical condition Monday afternoon.

Figueroa then took his own life when he turned the gun on himself, police said.

Police have determined the shooting was the result of an ongoing domestic dispute.

No one else was injured in the incident.

Shields Business Solutions provides security for armored cars and repairs ATMs, among other security services. It is located at 5 Twosome Drive.

“An unspeakable tragedy unfolded here this morning and, first and foremost, we’d like the families of those involved to know that our thoughts and prayers are with them,” Shields Business Solutions said in a prepared statement. “To our employees, we want to reiterate that their safety is our absolute priority. In order to provide support to our employees today and throughout the week, we have engaged a grief counselor who will be available here at our offices. At this point, this situation is a police matter, and we are working with the Moorestown Police Department.”

Moorestown Police were assisted at the incident by officers from Mt. Laurel PD, Maple Shade PD, Burlington County Sheriff’s Office, and the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office.
