Morris County Man Accused of Attempted Murder in North Jersey Hotel Shooting
Victim hospitalized; Boonton resident caught Sunday morning in Brooklyn, New York, prosecutor says.
A Morris County man has been arrested and charged with attempted murder after he allegedly shot someone in the head outside of a hotel in Hanover Township Friday afternoon, Morris County Prosecutor Fredric Knapp announced.
Daniel Wendt, 23, of Boonton, was taken into custody Sunday morning in Brooklyn, New York, and charged with attempted murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon.
On Friday, Feb. 20 at 3:30 p.m. police were dispatched to the Econo Lodge on Rt. 10 in the Whippany section of Hanover Township for a reported shooting, Knapp said.

Upon arrival police found the victim – whose name is not being released at this time – has suffered a gunshot wound and was transported to a local hospital, Knapp said.
Wendt was named a suspect and charges were lodged against him on Saturday, Feb. 21, prior to New York City police capturing him Sunday morning, Knapp said.

Wendt was taken into custody by members of the Major Crimes Unit of the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office, Hanover Township Police, and assistance from the New York City Police Department.
At the same time, Amelia M. Valentin, 24, of Paterson was also arrested, Knapp said. She was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and hindering apprehension in relation to the ongoing investigation, Knapp said.
This isn’t Wendt’s first brush with the law, having been arrested in Dec. 2012 in Parsippany on charges of heroin and crack possession, and was again sought after fleeing police last August in Lincoln Park and charged with possession of marijuana, according to nj.com.
The Morris County Prosecutor’s Office said no further information would be released at this time.
