Republicans Cut Into Democrats' Lead In Moorestown Council Race
Burlington County provided updated numbers in the Moorestown Council and Board of Education races on Thursday.
MOORESTOWN, NJ — The Democrats pursuing three open seats on Moorestown Council still held the edge over their Republican opponents after a second full day of ballot counting in Burlington County, but the Republicans were cutting into the lead.
Collectively, Democrats Sue Mammarella, Dave Zipin and Jake Van Dyken had 18,999 votes as of late Thursday afternoon. They lead Republicans Vick Bobadilla, Doug Maute and Barbara Omert by 3,607 votes. The Republicans had a combined total of 15,392 after Thursday’s counting.
The Republicans had trailed the Democrats by 4,137 votes at the end of Wednesday’s count, as the Democrats had a 17,867 to 13,730 lead at that time.

The lead shrank as the county continued to receive vote-by-mail ballots. As of 4:30 p.m. Thursday, the county had counted 207,433 of the more than 250,559 vote-by-mail ballots it had received, according to Burlington County spokesman David Levinsky. There was no information yet concerning provisional ballots.
Mammarella maintained her lead by adding 330 votes to her total, as she now stands at 6,384 votes. Zipin added 316 to his total, bringing him up to 6,301. Van Dyken added 306 to his total, bringing him to 6,134.

Bobadilla increased his total by 572 votes, and now has 5,249. Maute added 547 votes to get up to 5,097, and Omert added 543 votes to bring her to 5,046.
The gap between Van Dyken and Bobadilla shrank from 1,151 to 885 in one day, according to the numbers.
The order remains the same in the Moorestown Board of Education race, as six candidates vie for three open seats.
Lauren Romano increased her lead by 413 votes, and now has 6,112 votes. Mick Weeks added 385 votes to his total, and now has 5,673. Jack Fairchild now has 4,530 after adding 287 votes to his total.
Sarah Rivera trails Fairchild by 538 votes. She added 343 votes to her total and now has 3,992. The gap between the two one day earlier was 594 votes.
Julie Woodrow has 3,504 after adding 276 votes to her total. Val Gallagher has 2,884, up by 253 from the previous day.
The next update is scheduled to come on Friday.
