Sunnybrook Swimmers Set Records, Qualify for Tri-County Meet

The team defeated Covered Bridge Swim Club on June 20.

Two team records were broken, 30 Mako Sharks qualified for the Tri-County Championship meet, and Sunnybrook swimmers swam their way to a 317-237 win over the Covered Bridge Swim Club of Cherry Hill, on Saturday, June 20, at Sunnybrook Swim Club.

Alexander Martin set new team records in the 15-18 boys 100 meter freestyle and 50 meter butterfly events, both 25-year-old records.

The Mako Sharks started strong, with first place finishes in all six individual medley events.

For the 12-and-under girls, Katerina Poulathas placed first and qualified for Tri-County, and Catie Shawaryn was second. For the 12 and-under-boys, Antonis Christou placed first and also qualified for Tri-County.

For the 13-14 girls, Annie Wixted placed first and Janey Galski came in second in the 100 meter event. Both qualified for Tri-County. For the 13-14 boys, Alex Christou placed first.

Katie Hines was the first place finisher for the 15-18 girls in the 100 meter IM, and Danielle Scola came in second. For the 15-18 boys, Devin Nielsen placed first, qualifying for Tri-County and Matthew Phillips placed second.

Sunnybrook then won 6 out of 10 medley relay events, charging to a sizable early lead.

Winning teams were:

  • Jordin Chezem, Peyton Chezem, Bethany Trezciak and Eliana Delgado for the 8-and-under girls;
  • Aaron Fazler, Tre Hartsell, Colin Raue and Alex Yurkewicz for the 8-and-under boys;
  • Olivia Trasser, Katerina Poulathas, Catie Shawaryn and Sophia Sapnas for the 11-12 girls;
  • *Fiona Stewart, Annabel Gorman, Annie Wixted and Holly Robinson for the 13-14 girls;
  • Tara Thornton, Lauren Kohart, Skye Slater and Daniella Scola for the 15-18 girls; and Peter Kohart, Alexander Martin, Devin Nielsen and Thomas Trasser for the 15-18 boys.

In the freestyle events, eight swimmers qualified for Tri-County.

Sunnybrook swept the 8-and-under girls 25 meter freestyle with Eilana Delgado placing first and qualifying for Tri-County. Elizabeth Arthur was second and Bethany Trezciak was third.

For the 8-and-under boys, Aaron Fazler placed first and qualified for Tri-County, and Colin Raue came in third.

For the 9-10 girls, Catlin Barr placed second and qualified for Tri-County and Emma Holmgren was third for the 50 meter freestyle.

For the 9-10 boys, Luke Steene was third and qualified for Tri-County in the 50 meter freestyle.

In the 11-12 girls 50 meter freestyle, Sophia Sapnas was first and Molly Zimmerman was third.

For the 11-12 boys, Larry Walker was second and qualified for Tri-County in the 50 meter freestyle.

The 13-14 girls swept the 100 meter freestyle, with Holly Robinson first, Annabel Gorman second, and Ava Setter third. Robinson and Gorman also qualified for Tri-County.

Antonis Christou placed first for the 13-14 boys and qualified for Tri-County in the 100 meter freestyle event.

For the 15-18 girls, Kaitlyn Levinson came in second and Katie Hines third for the 100 meter freestyle.

In the final freestyle event, Alexander Martin broke his first Sunnybrook team record of the day in the 100 meter freestyle, and qualified for Tri-County, with a time of 52.78.

Jordin Chezem started the backstroke event with a first place for the 8-and-under girls in the 25 meter event, also qualifying for Tri-County. Abby Buss placed third for the Mako Sharks.

For the 8-and-under boys, Aaron Fazler was second and qualified for Tri-County and Alex Yurkewicz placed third.

For the 9-10 girls 25 meter backstroke, Meera Sholevar placed first and qualified for Tri-County, Mia Peper was third and qualified for Tri-County, and Isabel Trezciak also qualified for Tri-County.

For the 11-12 girls, Sophia Sapnas came in first and qualified for Tri-County and Olivia Trasser placed third for the 50 meter backstroke.

Larry Walker was the first place finisher for the 11-12 boys in the 50 meter backstroke and also qualified for Tri-County.

Holly Robinson placed first and qualified for Tri-County for the 13-14 girls and Fiona Stewart placed third for the 50 meter backstroke.

James Santarpio qualified for Tri-County and placed second for the 13-14 boys.

Lauren Kohart placed first and Tara Thornton third for the 15-18 girls in the 50 meter backstroke, and Sam Zielinski was second for the 15-18 boys.

The swim meet proceeded with the breaststroke event. For the 8-and-under girls, Zoe Yurkewicz was second and Bethany Trezciak was third. Both qualified for Tri-County. Maura McGrath also qualified for Tri-County.

For the 8-and-under boys, Tre Hartsell was first and Colin Raue third for the 25 meter breaststroke, both qualifying for Tri-County.

Mia Peper was first and qualified for Tri-County and Isabel Trezciak third, also qualifying for Tri-County for the 9-10 girls 25 meter backstroke.

Tyler Arthur placed second and qualified for Tri-County for the 9-10 boys. Catie Shawaryn was first place finisher and Tri-County qualifier for the 11-12 girls 50 meter breaststroke, and T.J. Zimmerman qualified for Tri-County and placed third for the 11-12 boys.

Annie Wixted was first and qualified for Tri-County for the 13-14 girls, with Fiona Stewart placing second in the 50 meter breaststroke.

Patrick Hartshorne placed third for the 13-14 boys in the 50 meter backstroke.

For the 15-18 girls, Danielle Scola placed second. Devin Nielsen was first and qualified for Tri-County and Matthew Phillips was third for the 15-18 boys 100 meter backstroke.

The final individual event, the butterfly started with the power sister combo of Jordin Chezem finishing first and Peyton Chezem finishing second for the 8-and-under girls 25 meter butterfly. Eliana Delgado also qualified for Tri-County in the event.

Tre Hartsell captured first for the 8-and-under boys, qualifying for Tri-County and Alex Yurkewicz was second, also qualifying for Tri-County.

In the 9-10 girls 25 meter butterfly, Caitlin Barr was second and qualified for Tri-County. Also qualifying for Tri-County in the event was Meera Sholevar.

Luke Steene was third for the 9-10 boys in the 25 meter butterfly.

For the 11-12 girls, Katerina Poulathas was first and qualified for Tri-County, with Olivia Trasser second and Hannah Babcock third.

Alex Christou was second in the 11-12 Boys 50 meter butterfly and qualified for Tri-County.

Annabel Gorman captured first for the 13-14 girls 50 meter butterfly, qualifying for Tri-County and Demi Poulathas placed second.

James Santarpio was second for the 13-14 boys in the 50 meter butterfly and the 15-18 girls swept the event with Lauren Kohart first, Kaitlyn Levinson second, and Anna Buss third.

Alexander Martin claimed his second team record of the day, obliterating the 25-year-old record in the 50 meter butterfly, placing first, qualifying for Tri-County and completing the distance in 25.62 seconds.

Sunnybrook completed the meet with six wins in the freestyle relays.

Winning teams were:

  • the 8-and-under girls team of Jordin Chezem, Bethany Trezciak, Elizabeth Arthur and Eliana Delgado;
  • the 8-and-under boys team of Aaron Fazler, Tre Hartsell, Alex Yurkewicz and Colin Raue;
  • the 11-12 girls team of Katerina Poulathas, Isabella Delgado, Catie Shawaryn and Sophia Sapnas;
  • the 13-14 girls team of Annabel Gorman, Fiona Stewart, Annie Wixted and Holly Robinson;
  • the 15-18 girls team of Danielle Scola, Kaitlyn Levinson, Katie Hines and Lauren Kohart; and
  • the 15-18 boys team of Alexander Martin, Devin Nielsen, Thomas Trasser and Peter Kohart.
