MOORESTOWN, NJ — Tuesday night's debate between Moorestown Council candidates at William Allen Middle School covered a range of topics, including water issues, affordable housing, the health of the township's finances and transparency. The full video of the debate has been posted on MooreUnity’s YouTube page, and is embedded below.
Incumbent Deputy Mayor Manny Delgado and Republican running mate Jamie Boren debated Democratic candidates Brian Donnelly and Nicole Gillespie in the forum moderated by 6 ABC Action News anchor and Moorestown resident Rick Williams.
The forum was presented by MooreUnity and questions were crafted by a committee and taken from members of the audience. One of the questions centered around transparency. Each side had their own opinion as to how transparent the council is.

Donnelly said the council doesn’t communicate well, and it’s because they have no leadership and no plan. He said the council doesn’t inform its citizens because they don’t want to be criticized, but if Moorestown had leaders who owned their mistakes, transparency would come naturally.
But Delgado pointed out that videos of all meetings are available on the township’s website. He also spoke about the agendas for each meeting being posted online, along with a description of each proposed resolution and detailed information about each proposed ordinance. He also spoke about the members of council going out into the community to speak about issues more with constituents, including during the recent controversy surrounding the possible relocation of the baseball fields at Memorial Field. Gillespie spoke about the need for the township to update its website and be more creative in the way they use technology to communicate with the public. She also called for council to host more town hall style meetings on big issues.
Boren said there wasn’t much to improve in the way of transparency because the township does communicate well. She said the council could improve the way it uses social media and enhance how it works with committees.
