Cyber-bullying Show Takes Stage at Morristown-Beard

George Street Players Present Show

Bullying is certainly nothing new among children and young adults, but the technological developments of the past decade have certainly made this issue even more complex.

On April 7th, Morristown-Beard School's middle school students learned about the dangers of cyber-bullying through a special performance of ā€œIRL: In Real Life,ā€ in Founders Hall. The play, written by R.N. Sandberg, examines the choices students face every day and investigates how they can take an active role to end cyber-bullying.

In the show, two students find their feud surfacing on friends' cellphones, emails and the world-wide-web, as insecurity, fear and humiliation surround their every move. From shared text messages, exploited secret photos and threatening online conversations, cyber-bullying reaches every facet of the students’ lives and leads to serious consequences.Ā

Following the play, the actors and students participated in a discussion about the themes of the show.

ā€œIn Real Lifeā€ is commissioned by the George Street Playhouse through a grant from the New Jersey State Bar Foundation.
