Daily Record: Immigrant Could Be Deported For Shoplifting $20 Earrings in Morris Plains

Sney Pandey was in court March 4.

The Daily Record is reporting that a 26-year-old permanent resident of the U.S. could be deported to her native India for shoplifting a pair of $20 earrings from the Morris Plains Kohl's in October of 2010. Shoplifting is considered an act of "moral turpitude" and a guilty verdict for Sney Pandey would be adequate grounds for deportation.

However, a judge agreed to hold the matter in abeyance until September, during which time Pandey is to complete 10 days of community service. A superior court judge could also decide to dismiss the case at that time. Full story here: Legal immigrant facing possible deportation after $20 theft from Morris Plains Kohl's.
