Delbarton Sends Seven Wrestlers to Region 3 Semifinals
Two Delbarton wrestlers lost, but can still win third place if they can make it through the wrestlebacks.
Delbarton will be sending seven wrestlers to the semifinals of the Region 3 wrestling tournament on Saturday, Feb. 9 at 9 a.m: Chris Iannarella (103 pounds); Max Rogers (112); Nick Anderson (119); Jorge Lopez (130); Jeff Canfora (135); Devon Gobbo (140); and Dean Sullivan (215).
The seven wrestlers earned a spot in the semifinals at Union High School after winning during the first night of competition on Friday night.
“I feel pretty good,” said Canfora, who stopped Obinna Nwanonyiri in the second period. “For the most part, I didn’t want to get taken down, obviously, but other than that I did what I wanted to.”
Canfora, who is the No. 1 seed at 145-pounds, will face Gov. Livingston’s Michael Stepien on Saturday.
“He’s a tough wrestler, but I expect to beat him,” Canfora proclaimed. “I don’t expect anyone to get in my way.”
Delbarton’s Johnson (145) and Matt Albano (125) both lost on Friday, sending them to the consolation wrestlebacks on Saturday, where they can still earn a spot in the state tournament in Atlantic City.
