Dr. Gaines Mimms to be Honored at March of Dimes Signature Chefs Gourmet Gala

The March of Dimes is proud to announce that Dr. Gaines M. Mimms, Division of Neonatology at Morristown Medical Center, also affiliated with Atlantic Health and St. Clare’s Health Systems, as well as a senior partner at MidAtlantic Neonatology Associates, will be the 2014 Honoree at March of Dimes Signature Chefs Gourmet Gala. The event will be held on Monday, October 20, 2014 at The Terrace at Biagio’s Restaurant in Paramus.

The March of Dimes, along with sponsors confirmed to date - Eisai Foundation, Goya, KPMG, PSEG, Sanzari Enterprises, Carlo Russo’s Wine and Spirit World, and Wainscot Media - will be raising money to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality.

“Morristown Medical Center continues to be a wonderful supporter of the March of Dimes and we are especially thrilled to honor Dr. Gaines M. Mimms,” said Gina Radice, March of Dimes Executive Director of the North Jersey Division. “Dr. Mimms’ presence coupled with his generosity and heartfelt support will help increase awareness of our mission and bring much success to this event. We are so thankful to Dr. Mimms for accepting this role as our 2014 Honoree.”

Dr. Gaines M. Mimms is a neonatologist currently celebrating his 30th year of caring for fragile babies in New Jersey. He is a senior partner of MidAtlantic Neonatology Associates (MANA), a medical group of 14 neonatologists and 12 nurse practitioners which is based at the Regional Perinatal Center in Morristown Medical Center. After obtaining his medical degree at the Free University of Brussels (Belgium), Dr. Mimms completed his Pediatric Residency at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center in New York. His fellowship was in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine at Babies Hospital, Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center. He is recognized for his clinical expertise in congenital infections and care of the extremely low birth weight infant.

Dr. Mimms has equally dedicated his entire career to medical education. He has served as the Pediatric Clerkship Director for several affiliated medical schools, including New Jersey Medical School, Drexel University College of Medicine, Mount Sinai School of Medicine, Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine and Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Mimms plays an active role in the training of pediatric residents at Atlantic Health System. For the past eight years, he is Conference Director of neoFORUM, a regional conference for physicians, researchers, and nurses which is recognized as New Jersey’s pre-eminent neonatology conference. Dr. Mimms is the recipient of innumerable Golden Apple Awards as recognition by students for his dedication to teaching and his impact on future generations of physicians.

I have personally witnessed the critical impact of their support for community health projects, perinatal research, and professional educational programs with the sustained focus of preventing prematurity and birth defects. I applaud their success over the years to have changed the outcome for so many children. It is my privilege to be associated with the March of Dimes,” said Dr. Mimms.

The March of Dimes Signature Chefs Gourmet Gala, which is now in its second year, has combined North Jersey’s 30 year Harvest Ball Black Tie Gala with the North Jersey Signature Chefs Gourmet Gala for a very elegant, upscale evening of fine dining, dancing, dancing demonstrations, a floor show and enjoying top of the line as well as the newest wines, spirits and beer from Carlo Russo’s Wine and Spirit World in Ho-Ho-Kus. Bud Maltin and his orchestra will be on hand. This gourmet extravaganza will feature the skills and creativity of approximately 25 -30 of the finest chefs and hottest restaurants in North Jersey. There will also be the opportunity to bid on incredible, creative and unique silent auction and culinary packages that highlight fabulous cuisine, fine wine, travel, entertainment, dinners, hotel stays and vacation getaways.
