Home-School Day at Cooper Gristmill – Muffin Baking
MORRIS TOWNSHIP, NJ - Home-school days will be observed on the first Thursdays of May, June, September, and October of 2011 at the Cooper Gristmill in Chester Township. On Thursday, May 5, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., participants will learn how to use freshly ground flour to make delicious muffins. As the muffins bake, the children will tour the gristmill and see how flour was made from grain in the 1880s. The children will then decorate cloth bags to take home filled with several muffins. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Call 973-631-5343 to register. The cost is $6 per student.
Cooper Gristmill is open April through October. In April, May and June, it is open Saturdays only from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. starting April 2. During July and August it is open Wednesdays through Sundays: on weekdays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on Sundays from 12 Noon to 5 p.m. In September and October, it is open on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from 12 Noon to 5 p.m. Last tour begins at 3:30 p.m. The suggested donation to tour the mill is $3 for adults, $2 for seniors (65+), and $1 for children ages 4 to 16. Children under age 4 are FREE.
