Supermodel and Advocate Christy Turlington Burns to Guest Speak at Charity Luncheon

Supermodel Christy Turlington Burns kicks off the 16th annual P.G. Chambers School Menus for the Mind Lecture Series at the Park Avenue Club in Florham Park on Thursday, November 11, 2010.

Aside from becoming a highly sought after fashion model who has graced every magazine cover from Vogue to Time, Turlington Burns has established a diverse career as a health advocate, entrepreneur, writer and filmmaker.  Her documentary on maternal health, No Woman, No Cry, premiered at the 2010 Tribeca Film Festival and she has launched the website www.everymothercounts.org as part of an outreach campaign supporting maternal healthcare issues.

After losing her father to lung cancer, she collaborated on smoking cessation public health campaigns and launched an award-winning website, smokingisugly.com.  In 2005, she began working with CARE – a leading humanitarian organization in the fight against global poverty and has been an ambassador for (RED) since its launch in 2006.

This is the first of three lectures in the Menus for the Mind series that are scheduled for the 2010 - 2011 school year.  The second luncheon will feature a special presentation by the students of P.G. Chambers along with a guest lecturer on Thursday, February 3, 2011. The third and final luncheon will feature physician and best-selling author Dr. Dean Ornish, scheduled for Thursday, May 5, 2011.

For the past 15 years, Menus for Mind has been the signature fundraising event for P.G. Chambers School (www.chambersschool.org).  In addition to raising the awareness of the school and its mission, Menus has raised much needed funds to support the school's special education and therapy programs for our young children with special needs.
