Five Things You Missed at the Morris Plains School Board Meeting
Plenty of activity will precede the opening of the new school year.

The August 9, 2011 meeting of the Morris Plains school board covered a lot of ground. Here, then, are five things you need to know:
- You Need to Know About Dennis Mack's Last Meeting: This was the last school board meeting for outgoing school superintendent Dennis Mack. His last day on the job is Friday. Dr. Ernest Palestis arrives in the district Wednesday.
- You Need to Know About the Arrival of The New Computer Equipment: Over the next few weeks about $300,000 worth of computer equipment, including 250 laptop and desktop computers, will arrive in the school district. The entire district will soon be wireless.
- You Need to Know About Fire Safety: A company called Cintas is wrapping up an update of the district's fire alarms which will be complete before school opens.
- You Need to Know About the FBI Background Checks: The members of the school board have submitted to FBI background checks, a new mandate that will apply to everyone affiliated with the school district, including volunteers.
- You Need to Know About the Beautification Committee: The Beautification Committee of the Home and School Association is working on plans to spruce up the front of Borough School with pavers and plantings.
