5 Things You Should Know About Morris Plains

Route 10 widening, Pfizer moving out and other updates

Mayor Frank Druetzler reported on several things to the borough planning board and public Monday night. According to the mayor:

1) State work at Greystone will be good for the borough: Even though Greystone Park is in Parsippany, many borough residents use the 300 acres now in Morris County control and the rest of the property the state will clean up. The state will remove outbuildings, remove asbestos and other pollutants from tunnels used for heating pipes and study the main building to determine if it can be saved.

2) Borough will still fight for a third lane: The borough is still working to get a third lane on Route 10 between Route 53 and 202.

3) An abandoned road will be useful: The borough wants to lease an abandoned spur off Route 24 for a recycling center and open space. Druetzler said the borough would eventually like to buy the property.

4) And across the street ... The old Easter Seal Center will be reserved for future affordable housing. Druetzler said even though the Council on Affordable Housing is history, there still could be quotas for municipalities to meet.

5) Bayer was thinking of buying: In answer to a question from resident John Wilson, Druetzler said Bayer was interested in purchasing buildings in the borough but couldn't come to a deal.
