Freeholders Taking Their Show on the Road

Sure, Morristown's nice. But the Morris County Freeholders have to get out sometime.

They're once again holding a series of meetings around the county, starting with one April 25 in Mine Hill. Here's the full statement from the county-wide governing body:

The Morris County Freeholders this year will continue a tradition they started in 2007 and will take some of their regular public meetings on the road.

The first will be Wednesday, April 25, when the board’s public meeting will be conducted in the Mine Hill Municipal Building, 10 Baker St., starting at 7:30 p.m.

Travelling meetings have been held in 34 of the 39 towns in the county since the practice began, and by the end of the year, each of the 39 towns will have been visited.

“Leaving Morristown, the county seat, and going on the road gives the freeholders the chance to meet face-to-face and to exchange ideas with local officials and to seek their input on the various issues that affect their towns,” said Freeholder Director William Chegwidden.

It also makes it more convenient for residents of those towns and nearby communities to attend a freeholder meeting, he said.

“It’s an occasion for citizens to meet the freeholders and to learn more about Morris County government and the services it offers,” Chegwidden said.

Besides Mine Hill, the freeholders plan to conduct public meetings this year in Hanover, Riverdale, Kinnelon and Wharton.
