Morris Plains Kids, Grades 6-12: Join the Volunteer Corps

Borough needs you to help make a difference in the community.

The Morris Plains Municipal Alliance is looking for students in grades six through twelve to help make a difference in the "Community of Caring."

According to the Alliance, there are many service organizations in the borough that would benefit from the assistance of young people with time, talent and ability.

"Our young people can help shelve books at the library, assist with a display at the museum, write holiday cards to a shut-in, help an elderly neighbor take out their recycling or rake leaves, babysit during a MOMs club meeting, help with monthly mailings, website development or set up and take down events.  All opportunities will involve youth with a caring adult supervisor and will require parent permission. Community service hours will be documented and distributed to all participants."

The young volunteers also benefit, the Alliance said, by:

  • Learning new skills
  • Working with positive adult role models
  • Nurturing a commitment to community service
  • Gaining a sense of purpose, meaning and optimism

The Morris Plains Municipal Alliance says that it is sponsoring the Volunteer Corps with support from the Town Council because "research shows that youth who are involved in community service are more likely to grow up healthy, caring and responsible."
