Museum Features Floor Art

Tapestries and floor coverings are in new exhibit

A new exhibition, Modern Tapestries and Floor Coverings Conceived by Picasso, Calder and their Contemporaries, will be on view at the Morris Museum from Thursday, Jan. 19 to Sunday, April 15.

The exhibition features wall hangings and tapestries designed by Pablo Picasso, Alexander Calder, Joan Miró, Annette Kaplan and John Coburn.  Working in the tradition of the tapestry makers of the Middle Ages, master weavers were able to translate the designs of these modern masters into abstract tapestries.

Exhibited works are on loan from Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation and Montclair State University along with works from the permanent collection of the museum. The opening reception is on Thursday, Feb. 2, at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 and include light refreshments and a lecture by Farhad Langarodi of J & S Designer Flooring in Morristown. To register, call 973.971.3718 or email programs@morrismuseum.org.
