Somerset Hills AAUW Program for April

An Archeological Travelogue of Spain
Spain has been host to most of Europe’s most important cultures over its long history. The Spanish artistic tradition began about 14,000 BC when the cave of Altamira was decorated with beautiful scenes of animal life. The Phoenicians, Greeks, and Romans added their cultural and organizational skills. Christianity came about 600 AD, but was almost immediately threatened by the Moorish invasion of 711 which left an indelible mark on the art and architecture of Spain. In 1492, it was from a Spanish port that Christopher Columbus sailed to discover the New World and make Spain a rich country. Now the Spanish economy struggles but the culture is still vibrant.

Robin Marion’s slide lecture will be presented in costume and there will be Spanish artifacts to see as well. Robin is an AAUW member, a world traveler and popular lecturer.

The meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at 6:30 at the Bernards Township Library. Light refreshments will be served. This talk is open to the pubic.
