Troop 39 Eagle Project Brings Bike Racks to Parks

Boy Scout Jack Thraen of Morris Plains headed the project, and hopes it encourages more people to ride bikes in the community

Three Morris Plains parks now have bike racks, thanks to Jack Thraen, an Eagle Scout candidate with Boy Scout Troop 39 in Morris Plains. Jack recently led an Eagle project to design, build and deliver three bicycle racks to Simon’s Park, Watnong Park and Community Park. Jack recruited and managed a crew of more than a dozen volunteers, who worked over four weekends to complete the project.

Jack is a junior at Morristown High School and a resident of Morris Plains. The Eagle project is one of the last steps toward becoming an Eagle Scout, the highest rank attainable in Boy Scouts. An Eagle project involves planning developing and leading others in a service project helpful to any religious institution, school or community. The project proposal must be approved by the organization benefiting from the effort, as well as leaders from the Scout’s troop and council.

Boy Scout Troop 39 meets every Monday at 7:15 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church in Morris Plains. For more information, visit the troop’s website at www.troop39bsa.org.
