Woodland Walkathon a Win For Morris School District Students

Students walk to gain healthy habits, raise funds and show school spirit.

Woodland Elementary held its Annual Walkathon on Thursday bringing together students, teachers and loved ones to walk laps around the Woodland school yard.Ā

The Walkathon is aimed to instill the importance of exercise and healthy living among students, demonstrate school wide enthusiasm and to raise funds for the school.Ā Ā

ā€œWe have tremendous pride seeing Woodland students having so much fun walking, while forming healthy habits and raising money for programs that will directly support their educational experience,ā€ said Rachel Petr, Co-President, Woodland Home & School Association (WHSA). ā€œThe Walkathon is one of Woodland’s most successful fundraisers and is a favored tradition because it brings together our Woodland community in such a meaningful way.ā€Ā T

he Walkathon was run by the WHSA, whose mission is to work with families to raise and provide funds for special programs for the students that enhance their education at Woodland.Ā  It kicked-off with an age-appropriate warm-up session by a fitness coach fromĀ My Fitness GymĀ in Morristown.Ā Ā

The students then proceeded to walk laps around the school yard to their favorite songs which they selected themselves – each lap raising more funds for the school.Ā  Many children exceeded 15 laps.
