You Need it: An Hour Surrounded by Artistic Beauty and Serenity
New exhibition opened at the Morris Museum.

Need to escape from the stresses of life for just a little while? A newly-opened exhibit at the Morris Museum could be just what you're looking for. Beauty in the Brushstroke: Chinese Brush Painting by Lynn Vergano is aĀ collection of more than 40 works of art that can provide a brief diversion from the frantic activity of your day.Ā
Vergano employs the centuries-old techniques of Chinese brush painting to illustrate subjects from nature, including plants, animals and landscapes. Some are painted on traditional silk scrolls, others on hand-madeĀ rice paper. Images in watercolor and ink are created withĀ goatās hair brushes.
Lynn Verganoās work has been shown in galleries around the world. Of creating the serene Chinese brush paintings, she said, "The simplicity and discipline of Chinese brush work attracted me. It seemed, like Asian philosophy, to go to the core of things.ā She also drew inspiration from the Victorian-eraĀ birds and other images hand-paintedĀ on the walls of her grandmotherās home.

The best news for the frazzled gallery-goer is Vergano's assertion that she "hopes that people who view her work experience a feeling of peace and universality that transcends time, place and culture."
The exhibition opened on March 9 and runs through May 1, 2011.
