100K+ Lego Blocks Used To Re-Create Morris Co. Revolutionary War Landmarks
A recent workshop in Morristown focused on the town's historic architecture through LEGO models.

MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — Morris County's observance of the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution recently included a hands-on LEGO workshop. The "Build Our History Brick-by-Brick" program centered on Morristown’s historic architecture. Fifty teams of families participated in the event at the Hyatt Regency in Morristown.
The workshop was hosted by Building Blocks Workshops in partnership with the Morris County 250th Anniversary Steering Committee and the Morris County Tourism Bureau. Participants used over 100,000 LEGO building blocks to recreate historic, civic, and cultural landmarks. These included 13 sites connected to the American Revolution, such as the Ford Mansion, Washington’s Headquarters Museum, Fort Nonsense, the Schuyler-Hamilton House, and the Wick House.
Morris County Commissioner Director Stephen Shaw commented on the program. "It was inspiring to see families working together to create these iconic structures from scratch," Shaw said. He added that Morristown played a critical role in the fight for independence, and these buildings help tell that story in a tangible way. Shaw further stated that the program offered a creative opportunity to showcase places that shaped the history of the county and the nation.

At the workshop's conclusion, a 16-foot-by-20-foot map of Morristown was unrolled. Each completed LEGO model was then placed in its corresponding real-world location. This assembled display created a three-dimensional aerial view of the town, showing the density and diversity of Morristown’s historic structures.
"Our focus is on connecting people with history in meaningful ways," Sarah Neibart, chair of Morris County’s 250th Anniversary Steering Committee, said. “Programs like this encourage exploration and a deeper appreciation for the historic places that remain part of everyday life in Morristown.”

Samantha Rutledge, director of strategic partnerships for the Morris County Tourism Bureau, also offered comments. "The level of detail and teamwork on display was remarkable," Rutledge said. She added that seeing the buildings together on the map helped participants understand Morristown's development and the continued importance of these sites.
The workshop is part of Morris County’s broader efforts to engage residents through educational and interactive programming leading up to the nation’s 250th anniversary in 2026. Gensler and Deloitte sponsored the program. Additional events marking Morris County’s role in the American Revolution will continue through 2026. More information is available at morriscounty250.org.
