16 Arrests Made, 8 Public Urination Cases Cited During Morris County St. Pat's Partying

25 medical calls leads to 18 people hospitalized on Saturday in Morristown, police say.

The rain wasn’t the only reason Morristown streets were soaking wet on Saturday.

Another Morris County St. Patrick’s Day Parade, another slew of arrests and citations for everything from aggravated assault to public urination as tens of thousands of spectators and revelers descended on the county seat.

With the fanfare comes excitement, and during a 21-hour period of police patrols, Morristown law enforcement handled dozens of calls and made 16 arrests.

According to Morristown Police Lt. Stuart Greer, the following numbers were a result of the police activity between 7 a.m. on Saturday, March 14 and 4 a.m. on Sunday, March 15. The Morris County St. Patrick’s Day Parade pre-activities kicked off at 10 a.m., with the parade marching at noon during a rain-soaked day.

  • Disorderly Conduct: 7
  • Defiant Trespassing: 2
  • Simple Assault: 1
  • Aggravated Assault: 3
  • Obstruction of Justice: 1
  • Creating False Public Alarm: 1
  • Possession of Controlled Dangerous Substance: 1
  • Total: 16

There were plenty of local ordinance violations as well, which included:

  • Urinating in Public: 8
  • Drinking in Public / Open Container: 19
  • Soliciting Without Permit: 1
  • Littering in Public: 1
  • Operating Taxi Without License: 1
  • Total Violations: 30

There were also six motor vehicle crashes reported during that timeframe, Greer said.

In addition to the arrests and citations, there were more than two dozen Emergency Medical Services responses during the 21-hour period, including:

  • Intoxicated Person: 9
  • Fall Victim: 1
  • Assault Victim: 2
  • Unspecified Complaint of Pain: 4
  • Medical Alert Activation: 2
  • Other: 7
  • Total: 25

There were a total of 18 people transported to hospitals as well.

Greer couldn’t say if the weather played a part, but the arrests and citations were down considerably from 2014.

Last year a total of 29 arrests were made during the same time period, and 34 ordinance violations were tallied. Crashes were down two year-over-year, and the number of EMS responses was down by 11 calls in 2015. Total number of persons transported to the hospital was also down nine.
