Pavilion Gifted By Morristown Rotary Club Was Unveiled This Weekend

MORRISTOWN, NJ — As a way to celebrate a century of service in the community the Morristown Rotary Club chose to gift the town a $90,000 pavilion at Lidgerwood Park.

"This pavilion is one of the ways we are celebrating 100 years of service to the community as well as 100 years of continuing service into the future," chapter President Steve Ellerman said.

Residents gathered this weekend for a ribbon-cutting ceremony, live music, arts and crafts, a food truck and cornhole games to celebrate the pavilion's unveiling to the community.

The pavilion highlights six 'Areas of Service' to which the Morristown Rotary Club contributes and develops projects: culture, education, health, hunger, Veterans and youth.

The Morristown Rotary Club, which was founded on May 1, 1922, has donated countless volunteer hours to community projects, including raising funds for 50,000 meals for seniors and others in need during the pandemic. Every month, the club runs a homeless Veteran program in which they assist veterans in transitional housing at the Lyons VA campus.

The Morristown Rotarians recently held a donation drive for the Disaster Response Fund, which provides grants to clubs in Ukraine and neighboring countries that are hosting refugees for projects and humanitarian aid.

"This is what is very important to our community, the commitment the Morristown Rotarians have given to Morristown and what they bring is by no means something small, it is on a large scale and we are very appreciative," said Morristown Mayor Tim Dougherty.
