MORRISTOWN, NJ — Thousands of people are rallying to save a horse stable's therapy program in Morristown, which is facing an uncertain future.

Seaton Hackney's Stables, run by Equishare USA, LLC, is a horseback riding facility at 440 South Street. It's known for its family-oriented programs, including a therapeutic horseback riding program for children with special needs.

"For the children and families who ride at Seaton Hackney, this decision reaches far beyond a barn lease," the petition reads. "It affects a place where riders find joy, develop skills, build confidence, and experience belonging."

Petition organizer Ana Canchola Mendez uses her daughter, Estela, as an example of the benefits the therapy program is able to provide.

Estela is autistic, has limited verbal communication, and has been riding at Seaton Hackney's for four years. According to her mother, the visits to the stables have become a "cherished part" of Estela's life.

"As her mother, these moments mean more than I can fully express. When communication is challenging, seeing your child express herself and take such pleasure in something she loves is deeply heartwarming," Mendez writes. "At Seaton Hackney, I get to celebrate Estela's abilities and watch her grow."

She adds that her other two daughters have fallen in love with riding at Seaton Hackney, saying the stables have become part of their family.

The petition is specifically urging the Morris County Park Commission to do the following:

"You do not need to be a rider to support this petition," it reads. "If you believe children deserve opportunities to flourish, families deserve to be heard, and established inclusive programs deserve meaningful consideration, please stand with us."
