Volunteers will focus their efforts on improving the pond buffer around Kitchell Pond, which flows into Loantaka Brook. A pond buffer can help improve water quality by reducing stormwater runoff into the pond, absorbing pollutants in the runoff, and reducing bank erosion. In this case, volunteers will add new native plants and remove invasive plants from the buffer. Native plants can absorb more stormwater runoff than invasive plants, and serve as important wildlife habitat. Participants should gather at Loantaka Brook Reservation's Kitchell Pond, 75 Kitchell Road, Morristown, NJ.
