New Jersey Roller Derby's Debut Bout

NJRD debuts as New Jersey's newest female roller derby league. Read about their first bout as a new league against the Jersey Shore Roller Girls' Beat Down.

On Saturday, April 21, 2012, New Jersey Roller Derby (NJRD) hosted their first double header and bout of their first season, welcoming the Jersey Shore Roller Girls Beat Down  (JSRG) from Asbury Park, NJ at the Inline Morristown Rink in Morristown, New Jersey. This is not the first time, and surely not last, that the two teams will skate together on the track.

 

Skating for NJRD were Team Captains Pixie Bust and Miss USA Hole, and fellow skaters, Wendy Velez, Rink E. Dink, Krazee, Miss Corpse, Smackintosh Apple, Scarlett Ho-Smash'n, Deadleigh Force, Shannan. Visiting skaters Leigh LaBrake and Kiki Kryptonite (from the Red Bank Roller Vixens) joined NJRD’s roster in the fight against the JSRG Beat Down. They were lead by their coach, Starsky, mens’s derby skater and player for the New York Shock Exchange, and Damien Gnecco, NJRD bench manager.

Skating for the JSRG Beat Down were Captain, Jack and Choke, Maureen Langer, Dezdemona Lott, Nikki Sixx Ft. Under, Bash N. Onya, Trigger Hippie, Scarlet Destruction, Carrot Topple, Stoli Slammer, T-Bex, Kami Quazi-Mojo, Obi-Wan Kenosebleed, Wicked Kitty, and Shirley B. Brutal. Kid Kill-O-Watt and Joy Kill Her led these fierce ladies rink side as bench coach and coach, respectively. They proudly led their ladies to victory in a close and exciting game 187-138.

JSRG started out strong on the jam line receiving lead jammer status for the first three jams. This was followed by NJRD getting lead jammer status for the next nine jams.  Skating defensively for NJRD were Rink E. Dink, Velez, Smackintosh Apple, Scarlett Ho' Smashn', Miss Corpse, Deadleigh Force, Kiki Kryptonite, and Krazee. Jamming as well as blocking NJRD had Shannan, Krazee, Miss USA Hole, and Pixie Bust. Scoring 25 points for NJRD in the first half was # 21, Pixie Bust.  Miss USA Hole # Perfect 10 took the jam line at jam #20, the final jam of the first period, scoring a total of 21points!

 

NJRDs’ Jammers, Pixie Bust, Shannan, Miss USA Hole, and Krazee battled JSRG’s Maureen Langer, Carrot Topple and  ruthlessly for the star as the game continued. As the first period came to a close, JSRG led with a narrow margin of just over 15 points against NJRD making the score at half time (90-75).

 

Period two began with Miss USA Hole on the Jam line. JSRG was determined to spread the score even more this period, but NJRD counteracted defensively, building tight walls and forcing JSRG’s Jammers behind them.  As the period came to a close, the final score read 187-138, in the Beat Downs’ favor. 

 

NJRD closed their debut bout with a strong fight. Miss USA Hole packed the scoreboard with points keeping the game close in number and jamming a total of 16 times scoring 68 points. Shannanigunz came out rockin' the track in her first bout, playing awesome defense, as well as jamming at total of12 times and scoring 37 points. Team Captain, Pixie Bust scored 33 points during her 9 jams. Miss USA Hole was chosen as MVP for NJRD and JSRG Beat Down's very own Carrot Topple received MVP for their team!
