12 Hospitalized For Carbon Monoxide Poisoning In Mt. Olive

A dozen people, including four police officers, were sickened in a township home.

MOUNT OLIVE, NJ — A dozen people, including four police officers, were sickened by carbon monoxide inside of a Mount Olive home Monday night, fire officials said.

Residents were sickened at the 3 Fenimore Court home around 7:30 p.m. last night, Fire Chief Tyler Wargo said, several of them unconscious. While responding, four first responders became sickened as well.

When responders arrived four minutes after receiving the call, "multiple" people were already out of the house and on the front lawn, nj.com reported.

Carbon monoxide levels were extremely high: 1,600 part per million, compared to a typical level of zero, Wargo said. The cause of the carbon monoxide is still under investigation.

Two sickened were children; another two were Good Samaritans trying to help, nj.com reported.

Two were flown to Jacobi Medical Center in New York City because of its specialized equipment, and the others were taken to Morristown Memorial Hospital and Saint Clare’s Hospital-Dover.

The names of the victims are not being released.
