Cops Rescue Dog From Burning Morris County Home

MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — A handful of Morris County police officers are being praised for their quick thinking and bravery during a recent house fire.

On Friday, first responders were called to a house on Williams Street in Roxbury on reports of a fire coming through a bedroom window.

Patrolman Roumes, Detective Shannon, and Patrolman Dixon were the first to arrive on the scene, followed by Sergeant Barbera, Corporal Strowbridge, and Patrolmen Trieber and Smith.

Patrolmen Roumes, Trieber, and Detective Shannon ran into the home and found a dog hiding beneath a table. Officers rescued the dog "without hesitation" and took it out of the burning home.

At the same time, Patrolmen Dixon and Smith climbed onto the roof using the home's deck with a fire extinguisher and began extinguishing the fire from the rooftop, officials said.

"Their actions significantly knocked down the fire, and Roxbury Fire Department took over extinguishing the remaining fire," officials said. "Their actions are a true reflection of the kind of officers we are proud to have serving our community."
