Fatal Morris Co. Crash Puts Car Along Passaic River: Police

The driver sped through a shopping center parking lot and hit a tree, according to police.

LONG HILL, NJ — A driver died after speeding through a shopping center and crashing Tuesday morning, Long Hill authorities. Authorities have not yet identified the driver, whose vehicle landed along the Passaic River waters, according to Police Chief Ahmed Naga.

The crash occurred at 10:32 a.m. Tuesday by the Valley Mall, a shopping center in Gillette. Witnesses saw the vehicle speed through the parking lot, according to police. Behind the shopping center, the car struck a tree and landed in low-lying water along the Passaic River, Naga said.

No one else was in the vehicle, according to police.

The Long Hill Township Police Department and Morris County Sheriff's Department are investigating the crash. Authorities promised more information once it becomes available.

The Long Hill First Aid Squad, paramedics and the Stirling, Millington and Berkeley Heights Fire Departments assisted at the crash scene.
