Frosh Football Beats Randolph in Final Minutes

Morristown freshman remain undefeated.

The Morristown freshman football team battled throughout the whole game, scoring the winning touchdown with 1:25 remaining in a 20-18 victory over Randolph on Saturday, Oct. 2.

Down 18-12 with 1:57 to go in the game Randolph would go for the first down on a 4th and 1 at midfield, only to be stopped by the Colonials defense, which injected life into the Morristown team and swung momentum.

Quarterback Amir Washington, who completed a number of big passes in the second half, connected with Andres Rodriquez for a 20-yard pass play putting the Colonials on the doorstep of Randolph's end zone. Adrian Tracey took a snap out of the "wildcat" formation and slice across the goalline with 1:25 remaining. The Colonials would convert the 2-point opportunity to take a 20-18 lead, sealing the victory and keeping the team undefeated.

"We were really pumped and motivated [when we stopped them on 4th and 1], our defense really pulled through for us," said running back Brian Belgley. Belgley's hard nose running grinded down the Randolph defense all day, proving instrumental in all three scoring drives. He finished the game with 84 yards rushing.

"We have a lot of packages [for our running backs] and anytime we put any set of them in we're pretty confident in what they can do," said Coach Gerald Brown.

Belgley's good play opened up the passing attack in the game as Randolph keyed in on stopping Belgley's big gains. Amir Washington would connect with wideout Ty Locklin on two beautiful pass plays for the Colonials first two scores, one of which went for 54 yards where Locklin did his best Santonio Holmes impression, catching a slant, breaking tackles and cutting his way to the end zone to tie the game in the third quarter at 12-12 after a Randolph 75-yard run back. Locklin's other touchdown catch came from one yard out on a bootleg from Washington early in the third quarter.
