Greater Morristown Getting 1.5 Miles Of New Water Main
The $3.2 million project aims to improve the water system's reliability and resiliency.

MORRISTOWN, NJ — The Southeast Morris County Municipal Utilities Authority initiated a $3.2 million project that will replace 1.53 miles of water main in Greater Morristown. SMCMUA's project aims to improve the existing system's reliability and resilience.
The utility company will also replace 30 fire hydrants and install 40 new water meters and meter pits. The project, which began Monday, should take about a year, according to Morris County officials.
The water main replacement projects are located in Morristown and Morris Township. Morristown contains 6,600 linear feet of water main in the business district and 600 in a residential area. Officials have already replaced 900 feet of water main in Morris Township as part of the endeavor.

In Morristown, workers will replace some of the oldest unlined, cast-iron main line, which was installed around the 1890s. The new main will run between Washington Street at Conklin Avenue to South Street at James Street.
The project began Monday, with the residential section on George and Rowe Streets, which will be followed by Segment 1 in the business district starting Friday.

The utility company developed a project hub on www.smcmua.org. The current page leads a press release and map of the project, but the hub page will become fully operational Jan. 25 with more information. The page will include an interactive interface for community members to assess how the project will impact them.
Reivax Contracting received the main renewal contract.
