Hanover Man Scammed After Cybersex Encounter: Police

The woman turned out to be more con artist than love interest, after she threatened to release a video of the encounter, police said.

HANOVER, NJ — A Hanover man was swindled out of $1,000 after a cybersex partner threatened to share a video of their encounter with his friends, Hanover Township Police said in a statement.

The man, who police did not name, met a woman who said her name was Chloe Murrary on the dating website Plenty Of Fish. The two had cybersex using Skype, police said.

After they video chatted, "Chloe" sent the man a recording of their encounter, threatening to send it to all of his Facebook friends if he didn't pony up $1,000. If he did pay, she said she would delete the video.

After sending the money to a MoneyGram account in the Philippines, the man reported the incident to Hanover Township Police, fearing the video was not deleted and the blackmail would continue.

Both the scammer's name and telephone number turned out to be false, police said. A Google search showed police this type of scam is a common occurrence. The investigation is ongoing.
