Heroin Dealer Sentenced To 8 Years For Morris County Drug Ring: Prosecutor

The Clifton man was one of 25 people arrested during a heroin ring bust in 2016.

MORRISTOWN, NJ— A Clifton man has been sentenced to 8 years in jail for his role in a county wide heroin and cocaine ring, the Morris County Prosecutor Fredric M. Knapp announced on Friday.

Prentice R. Melton, 49, was arrested in January 2016 as part of a months-long investigation into a drug trafficking network in Morris County. Melton supplied a large amount of heroin and cocaine to the ring leaders, brothers Ron and George Washington, Knapp said.

Most of the drugs were distributed in Morristown, Victory Gardens, Dover, and surrounding areas, Knapp said.

Melton will have to serve 4 years, before he is eligible for parole.

“The Morris County Prosecutor’s Office will continue to aggressively pursue and prosecute for-profit drug dealers. The sentence imposed today by the Court will hopefully deter those who currently engage in such similar criminal activity, and those who are considering this unlawful practice,” said Knapp.
