Heroin Overdoses On The Rise In Morris County

The number of people who died of opiate overdoses nearly doubled in the past 3 years.

MORRISTOWN, NJ— Heroin overdoses are on the rise in Morris County, and have been climbing for years, according to an nj.com report.

People came together to discuss the opioid epidemic at a county-wise opiate addiction and recovery summit Tuesday evening.

"Because of this substance people in this state, and people in this county are dying," the chief assistant prosecutor, Brad Seabury, said.

Fatal overdoses are on the rise in Morris County, up significantly from 2014, nj.com reported. In 2014, 35 people died. That number rose to 43 in 2015, and again to 62 in 2016.

So far, 11 people have died in 2017, including two deaths in Morris Township in the same week.
