I-80 Still Closed, Rt. 46 Jammed Following Fatal Bus Crash

Breaking: Roads in and around Mount Olive are seeing high levels of traffic following a fatal bus crash this morning.

MOUNT OLIVE, NJ — All lanes of I-80 west remain closed following a fatal bus crash Thursday morning, and will remain closed through the evening rush hour, police say.

A school bus was involved in a crash with a dump truck around 10 a.m. near Exit 25 in the westbound lanes. All of the westbound lanes will remain closed as State Police, the National Transportation Safety Board, and other agencies investigate the fatal crash. One lane eastbound remains closed as of 2:35 p.m., and there are delays in the open lanes. You can read live updates here.

Other nearby roads are also seeing serious traffic jams. Traffic on Route 46 remains heavy in Mount Olive, Hackettstown and Long Valley, Washington Township police say. Schooley's Mountain Road, Flocktown Road and Naughright Road are also experiencing heavy traffic in the town.

NJ DOT is reporting delays of 15 minutes on US 206 in Roxbury.

Drivers are asked to avoid the area totally if possible.

A student and a teacher have been confirmed dead following the crash, Gov. Phil Murphy said at a press conference. Forty-three of the 45 people onboard the bus were injured and taken to nearby hospitals. You can watch the full press conference here.
