Key Properties Celebrates First Rooftop Solar Installation

Key Properties, joined by township officials, project partners, and community members, celebrated the grand opening and completion of its first rooftop solar installation with a ribbon cutting ceremony on May 14 at the Extra Space Storage facility in Cedar Knolls. Despite heavy rain, the event drew a strong turnout of local leaders and supporters.

In a highlight of the ceremony, Mayor Thomas “Ace” Gallagher presented Adam Schlussel, Vice President of Key Properties, with a ceremonial key to the city. “We’d like to present you with a key to the city,” said Mayor Gallagher. “Not sure what it opens, but you can reach us anytime. We really appreciate your doing business in Hanover.”

Deputy Mayor Michael A. Mihalko performed the ribbon cutting, officially commemorating the project’s completion.

Adam Schlussel reflected on the partnership and community ties that made the project possible:
“I’ve had the privilege of working with all of you. It’s an honor. We’re here to celebrate your contributions. We partnered with Hanover Crossroads back in 2017, and we’re excited to expand that partnership with this facility.”

Anthony Facchino, Senior Project Manager at Jarmel Kizel Architects and Engineers, who oversaw construction of the facility, remarked: “When you check out a site in weather like this, you get to see what a great job was done with it.”

The new rooftop solar array offsets 100% of the building’s electricity usage and is expected to generate over 140,000 kilowatt-hours of clean electricity annually.

Tony Johnson of Solect Energy, the project’s solar partner, added: “Solect is excited to be here to celebrate with you. We’re also working with Key Properties on their next location—a fully electric building where solar will power all the HVAC and electricity.”

This project marks a major step forward in Key Properties’ commitment to sustainable development and energy efficiency.
