Man Sexually Assaulted Woman During Morristown Burglary: Police

Police say the serial burglar attacked the woman with a stun gun and bound her during the break-in.

MORRISTOWN, NJ — A serial burglar was arrested after he broke into a Morristown woman's apartment and sexually assaulted her, Morris County Prosecutor Fredric Knapp and Morristown Bureau of Police Chief Peter Demnitz said in a statement.

Brian Session, 47, of East Orange, was charged with burglarizing multiple apartments in Morristown in November and December, and with sexually assaulting and kidnapping a Morristown woman on Jan. 18, Knapp said.

Session allegedly broke into an apartment the afternoon of Jan. 18. When the woman who lived there returned home, Session allegedly demanded her ATM pin number and broke a number of electronics in the apartment.

He was also charged with burglarizing Ridgedale Avenue apartments in mid-November, and with burglarizing Hill Street apartments in early December. He was charged with multiple counts of burglary, theft, and attempted burglary.

Session was taken to the Morris County Correctional Facility on a warrant-complaint in accordance with the Criminal Justice Reform Act, Knapp said.

Police patrols have been expanded in the area of the sexual assault, Moristown Mayor Tim Dougherty said.

“I am saddened and disturbed by these alleged crimes, and will continue to keep the victim in my thoughts and prayers,” said Morristown Mayor Timothy Dougherty. “The safety and security of residents is our first priority. I commend the hard work of Chief Peter Demnitz and his department on the quick apprehension of the suspect. While we have every reason to believe that these crimes are isolated and that no one should be afraid, we still encourage our residents to be vigilant in reporting any suspicious activity.”
