Morris Co. Homicide: 2 Nabbed In Oklahoma, Authorities Say

The arrests come as authorities investigate a recent homicide in Morristown.

MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — Two people believed to be connected to a Morris County homicide were found in Oklahoma, according to authorities. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol found Tyrell Lansing and Dequan McDaniel as they headed for Tulsa on Thursday, according to the agency.

The Morris County Prosecutor's Office continues to investigate a homicide that they say occurred early Wednesday morning in Morristown. Police had a person of interest but did not publicly identify them. A spokesperson for the prosecutor's office declined to say whether the Oklahoma arrests were connected to the Morristown case, "in order to protect the integrity of the investigation."

The New Jersey Fusion Center notified Oklahoma authorities that a homicide suspect was traveling through the Sooner State. The New Jersey agency pinged a cellphone in the vehicle, helping the Oklahoma Highway Patrol find their location.

Oklahoma authorities pulled over the vehicle, and both occupants exited peacefully. Lansing was initially the only suspect, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. But once the agency gave McDaniel's name to the New Jersey Fusion Center, they asked troopers to hold him as they worked on filing charges.

No charges have been announced.
